DC Judge Turns Down Lawsuit to Stop Gay Marriage Law

In its recent D.C. Superior Court lawsuit, the Alliance Defense Fund sought to restore opportunity for a referendum on the D.C. law that recognizes same-sex marriages licensed elsewhere. The D.C. Elections and Ethics Board had decided that a proposed referendum violates the D.C. Human Rights Act, and the Court agreed, dismissing the case. Unless ADF successfully appeals the dismissal, or Congress intervenes before July 6th, the D.C. Council will face no obstacle to adopting a marriage-equality law.
